Simulation to Reality

In January 2020, a young man got an email he’s waited years for. A simple logo that is undoubtedly Caribbean while remaining pertinent to its intended use. A steel pan-esque wheel with the unique name Calypso Racing Community written alongside it. With pride, his idea was realised. Six months later, he met two sim racers in a local competition who shared a similar desire to foster the growth of sim racing and motorsport in the region and on July 18th, 2020, Calypso Racing Community (CRC) was formed by Dominic Charles, Garvin Daniel and Daniel Persad.

At its core, CRC is a community of like-minded individuals who all share a passion for racing and automobiles. That shared fascination and interest is fundamentally what led CRC to eSports and the virtual environment at the beginning, as well as real-life events more recently. CRC’s initial purpose was to bring together the region’s sim racers, car enthusiasts and racing fans and provide a platform to enjoy superlative eSports competitions and a close-knit automotive community, however, our view and goals expanded almost immediately. In an ongoing search for knowledge and a better understanding of racing dynamics, the community quickly became an educational hub for car enthusiasts, with automotive technicians, circuit racers, drag racers, autocross veterans and even some professional, world-class drivers sharing their information and improving the standard of driving, on-track etiquette and the general understanding of cars and motorsport. Combined with the friendly atmosphere and constant push towards building better racers, CRC now houses some of the fastest and cleanest sim drivers in the world who even use some lessons learned through eSports to dominate their fields in real-life motorsport.

In the space of two years, CRC has gone from a small group of 20 sim racers to over 100 regional drivers (Trinidad, Guyana, Jamaica and Barbados) from all forms of sim and real-life motorsport, not counting foreign racers. Thus, CRC has become an internationally recognized community, well known for camaraderie and constant improvement. Since its conception, CRC has hosted events sponsored by popular local brands such as AutoNation, PRS Performance, State of The Art Automotive, Ultimate Sport Tuning, and FT Farfan Lubricants Division with plans to host many more events in the future as we continue to grow. CRC has also successfully drawn international attention to the Caribbean’s motorsport scene, exposing our car culture and skill via networking with other racing communities across the globe. Some recent accomplishments include 2 drivers scoring points in the Caribbean Miata Cup, three of our Autocross drivers winning and scoring podiums in their classes (one winning their championship last year), one of which also won the coveted “Caribbean Sim Racing Champion” title, multiple major iRacing endurance event top 10s, and three drivers scoring well, with one in first place at the JSRA Caribbean vs Colombia event which was streamed on SportsMax.

Considering the success thus far, we are extremely proud to have such a prestigious and well-recognized community and plan to continue sharing our knowledge and passion for motorsport. We will continue moving forward as a family of racers and car enthusiasts, and in the coming years, we will expand to other disciplines, furthering our collective goals and surpassing every expectation cast toward us.
